hello friends..
It has been quite a while since the last time we crawled out of the shadows long enough to share our current endeavors, or lack thereof. We are artists, therefore we are always creating, conceptualizing, and changing our plan, and it becomes a bit redundant to say, “we are working on songs” over and over again. That being said, we ARE working on new songs. Not too many of our initial attempts make it past the chopping block into the entree, but a few bits and pieces have and we are starting to have a bone structure of what might become our next album. I don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but if you have ever seen the films that depict an artist ripping up his canvas and shouting “IT’S NOT RIGHT! IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT!” then you have a general idea of what its like working on The Smiles and Frowns recordings. We do appreciate the ever patient listeners, desperate requests for new material, and continuous support. In the last year or so we veered from the path of productivity due to habitat changes, health issues, and general laziness, but is seems that we have found our way back and are again moving forward. cheers!

As a mode of distraction and a recommendation I present to you “Woodpeckers From Space” by Video Kids, off their album “Invasion of the Spacepeckers”. This song is what I consider to be the perfect combination of fantasy, silly, sexy, hip, toe tapper, pop brilliance… and it alienates the listener just enough to make it artistic. I discovered it while watching an episode of “Pingu”. The episode entitled “Pingu Helps with Incubating”. Who knew that Pingu was such a hipster..
